Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), a global leader in digital infrastructure, has appointed Wole Abu as Managing Director for West Africa. He is tasked with driving growth and enhancing regional connectivity in Nigeria, Ghana, and Côte d’Ivoire. Abu will oversee Equinix’s expansion in these key markets. He will be working closely with local businesses and multinationals to strengthen the region’s digital landscape.

In his new role, Abu takes over from Funke Opeke, founder and CEO of MainOne. Opeke remains with Equinix as a strategic advisor in West Africa through March 2026. Abu brings more than 20 years of telecoms expertise, previously serving as CEO for Liquid Intelligent Technologies in Nigeria and Africa Data Centre (ADC). He is known for his commitment to leveraging technology to drive social and economic progress. As MD ,he will lead Equinix’s efforts to support educational, sustainable, and community initiatives. All of these are aligned with the company’s long-term environmental and societal goals.

Abu said, “I’m thrilled to join Equinix and help bring advanced digital infrastructure across Africa. Expanding digital access is vital for bridging the digital divide and providing life-enhancing services to the region. I look forward to contributing to this transformation and building a more connected, accessible digital landscape in West Africa.”

Abu’s appointment comes soon after Equinix launched its latest data center in Johannesburg, underscoring the company’s commitment to accelerating digital transformation and building resilient infrastructure across Africa.
