The Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has officially handed over a state-of-the-art Emerging Technologies Centre (ETC) to the Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa, Ogun State. The project aimed at enhancing digital learning, innovation, and research. It also marks a significant step toward bridging Nigeria’s digital divide and promoting technological inclusion.

The inauguration and handover ceremony held recently and wass highlighted by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between USPF and OGITECH, It will ensure the effective utilization and long-term sustainability of the ICT facility.

Enhancing Digital Learning and Innovation

The Emerging Technologies Centre (ETC) is a flagship initiative under the USPF’s mandate to expand ICT access to underserved areas. The fully equipped facility provides students and faculty members with access to 100 desktop computers. In addition to this are high-speed internet, and cutting-edge digital applications in emerging technologies. They include:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Data Analytics
  • Cybersecurity
  • Cloud Computing

The USPF Secretary, Yomi Arowosafe, emphasized the strategic importance of the project.

“The ETC is more than just bricks and mortar—it represents a vision, a commitment, and an investment in the future of Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole. With OGITECH’s growing student population of 9,300, this facility will serve as a catalyst for digital skills development, research, and entrepreneurship.”

Arowosafe highlighted the role of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, under the leadership of Dr. Bosun Tijani, and the NCC Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida, in steering ICT-driven initiatives for national development.

The USPF has been instrumental in implementing access and connectivity projects across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. The ETC at OGITECH is part of this broader mission to empower institutions and communities through technology.

Expressing gratitude to the NCC and USPF, OGITECH Rector, Dr. Abiodun Oluseye, assured that the institution will ensure maximum utilization and sustainability of the project.

“We appreciate the NCC and USPF for selecting OGITECH as the location for this impactful project. We are committed to ensuring that the ETC remains a center for learning, research, and innovation that benefits not only our students but also the larger community.”

The MoU signed between USPF and OGITECH formalizes this commitment, ensuring that the institution maintains the facility. Also, it integrates it into its academic and research programs, and encourages active industry collaborations.
