The United States (US) Diplomatic Mission to Nigeria is targeting about 460 Nigerian students and teachers across elementary, secondary, and tertiary institutions for weeklong technology training as part of efforts to foster technology education and build capacity in Nigeria.
The US Consul General, John Bray while speaking at the launch of the training, organised in collaboration with RoboRave International, a US-based robotics education academy, noted that it will further help to expose participants to prospects in technology education and equip them with IT knowledge and skills that will bring about innovative solutions to global challenges.
“In a world that is becoming increasingly technology-driven, it is more important than ever before for our youths to be equipped with the knowledge and skills to become innovators, educators, researchers, and leaders who can solve the most pressing challenges facing our world, both today and tomorrow. We are honored to support this initiative that promotes Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in Nigeria,” said Ambassador Bray.
The participantswill be provided with hands-on robotics activities to stimulate their interest in STEM education at the training which is slated to take place at the American Corner, Co-Creation Hub (CCHUB), Yaba, Lagos.
Additionally, the Director of RoboRAVE Nigeria, Mr. Kingsley Imade who was present at the launch explained that an international faculty would facilitate the training sessions.
He reckoned that some of the sessions on robotics designs and programming will help to create a platform for teachers to learn and equip them with skills in implementing practical STEM approach while teaching students.
The facilitators of the training include RoboRAVE International Director of Global Programmes Russ Fisher-Ives, and RoboRAVE North America Director Brian Montoya.
