Medallion has become a foundational telecommunications infrastructure servicing company providing carrier-neutral critical network infrastructure for use in the industry, organizers said as the announced the immediate past President of the Association of Telecom Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) winner of the coveted award.
“A check of the activities of Engr. Ikechukwu Nnamani vis-a-vis Medallion Data Centre and the data center ecosystem in Nigeria by Tech TV intelligence Unit Panel [showed] that Engr. Ikechukwu Nnamani is the Most Innovative Data Centre Personality of the year 2023,” said Don Pedro Aganbi, team lead at Tech TV Intelligence Unit and organiser of the event which held in Lagos.
According to him, the selection process spanned four months and involved gathering a series of detailed information on KPIs, Innovation, growth strategies and digital compliance.
Medallion Data Centre is today the number one go-to facility for fast, efficient, and cost-effective datacenter and connectivity services when time to market and affordability is essential, Aganbi added.
Medallion Data Centre is a nest for major telecommunication infrastructure in Nigeria including the Internet Exchange Point as are all the submarine cables in Nigeria.
The company is already implementing “a series of new world-class datacenters within Nigeria and across West Africa to boost and digitize the local economy, create jobs, enable the localization of contents by hyperscale digital infrastructure providers, and ensure foreign direct investment into the local economy.”
Nnamani thanked the organisers for the recognition and said the award is a further call to service. His words:“ we are happy that the little we are doing is being noticed by stakeholders. We are also happy that we are being seen as the Most Innovative Data Centre Personality of the year 2023. This for us, is a call to work harder.”
Nnamani argued for local hosting of content to accelerate the development of local content and hosting of the content in-country for national security reasons and ease of access, support.
In the face of continuous escalation of global cybersecurity, Nigeria needs to have several top-tier data centers spread across the country for the localization of critical and sensitive data and the creation of several disaster recovery sites.
Additionally, the Forex challenge has made a compelling case for Internet service providers (ISPs) and similar industries hosting their content in foreign lands and paying in scarce foreign currency to look inward and go local to enjoy naira-based transactions, the Medallion boss said.
