The indefinite strike is set to begin on September 9, 2024, in response to what the workers describe as widespread precarious working conditions.
Strike to address anti-labor practices
In a statement released on Tuesday, PTECSSAN’s General Secretary, Mr. Okonu Abdullahi, stated that the strike has become necessary due to alleged anti-labor practices by the companies. These include the refusal to recognize and respect the workers’ constitutional rights to freely associate with the union.
“We will not suspend the planned indefinite strike action until our demands are met,” said Abdullahi, who also claimed that three union members were unjustly dismissed.
The workers’ demands
- The immediate reinstatement of the three unjustly sacked workers: Sotola Sunday Kolawole, Ulu Ikechukwu Christopher, and Alex Franklin C.
- The immediate recognition of employees’ fundamental right to freely associate with the union.
- The immediate recognition of PTECSSAN as the official negotiating body for employee welfare.
- The immediate remittance of membership dues into the union’s account, as previously agreed upon.
“We hope that these companies will use the seven-day window of this notice to meet our demands and avert the indefinite strike action,” Abdullahi concluded.
Other companies affected by the strike notice include Tylium Nigeria Ltd, Specific Tool and Techniques, and Safari Group Ltd.
