At the second edition of the West Africa Telecoms Infrastructure Summit and Exhibition (WATISE), hosted by TechnologyMirror in Lagos, experts converged to discuss the future trajectory of the telecoms industry, using Nigeria’s market dynamics as a focal point.

Leading the discourse, Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), emphasized the pivotal role of telecommunications infrastructure in shaping the digital economy. Represented by Engr. Victor Adoga, Head of Next Generation Technology and Standards at the NCC, Maida highlighted the importance of robust and secure infrastructure to support the evolving digital landscape.
Key trends discussed included the transformative potential of 5G networks, enabling technologies like IoT and smart cities, and the imperative of fiber optic expansion. Maida also underscored the significance of regulatory frameworks, cybersecurity, and energy efficiency in sustaining telecom infrastructure development.
In advocating for industry resilience, Maida stressed the need for strategic collaboration among stakeholders, innovative financing models, and investment in human capital. He also emphasized the integration of AI and machine learning and the development of smart infrastructure as essential components for future-proofing the industry.
Meanwhile, Chidi Ajuzie, CEO of WTES Projects Limited, highlighted the influx of connectivity through submarine cables, underlining the need for coordinated efforts in managing national transmission backbones to avoid duplication and optimize network efficiency.
