StartUp Arewa, the Northern Nigerian technology ecosystem is partnering with FavCode54, a US based FavCode54 is a non-profit initiative, to train 5000 young Nigerians desiring to build a career in software development and programming.
The training is free. Participants are not expected to make any financial commitments.
FavCode54 aims to teach, “mentor, and build the next generation of African software developers, using everyday people with no skills and turning them into tech geniuses fully equipped to work with tech companies in their local communities and globally.”
The collaboration is opening a vista for capacity building targeting “anyone who currently resides in Northern Nigeria and most importantly, people that have a strong passion to change Africa through technology,” said founder and chief promoter of StartUp Arewa, Mohammed Jega.
“Learners will be taught by a team of world class mentors who will properly guide them through their chosen career path in software development.
“Our mentors are great developers with lots of industry experience as some of them are currently working with companies like Facebook, Google, IBM, Twitter, snap chat and more.
“So whatever technology it is you’re interested in – web, mobile, data science, algorithms, user interface, and so on, you can be rest assured you’ll be properly taught to become an expert in it.”
“You also get to learn at your own pace with the option of doing so at physical hubs provided by Startup Arewa, or from home,” added Jega in a statement released at the weekend in Kaduna.
The collaboration will also help to facilitate job opportunities with both local and international companies for the participants after undergoing the training. “All learners on this platform will move from the classroom into offices all over the world,” said Jega.
