Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, has voiced concerns that telecommunications companies in Nigeria may be attempting to undermine an upcoming protest against economic hardship.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Adegboruwa noted an increase in complaints about network restrictions as the protest date, scheduled for August 1, approaches. The protest aims to address issues such as hunger, poverty, and dissatisfaction with current economic policies.

Adegboruwa criticized the timing of recent subscriber disconnections by telecom companies, suggesting these actions may be intended to limit the reach of protestors and disrupt the demonstration. He stressed that telecom contracts are legally binding and that subscribers should receive adequate notice and information to resolve any issues.

He called on the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to investigate the situation and ensure that the rights of subscribers are protected. Additionally, he urged security agencies to provide protection for the protesters.
