Returning to Tanzania for the first time since 2011, eLearning Africa is the continent’s largest and most influential event on digital education, training, and skills development. This year’s gathering is expected to bring together over 1000 participants from more than 80 countries, including ministers of educational and ICT, tech innovators, development partners, investors, and senior policymakers.

Tanzania’s growing leadership in digital transformation

The President’s participation highlights Tanzania’s growing leadership in digital transformation and its commitment to inclusive, tech-enabled education. Under President Hassan’s administration, the country has launched a series of ambitious initiatives to bridge the digital divide and expand access to quality learning opportunities, from free internet access for schools through the SmartWASOMI programme, to nationwide digital textbooks, zero-rated platforms, and advanced online training for civil servants through the TAeLC eLearning Centre.

These efforts have positioned Tanzania as a hub for education technology and innovation in the region, and the conference will provide an opportunity to showcase this progress to a global audience.

Charting new strategies for digital inclusion in education system

At a recent fundraising event for the summit, Professor Carolyne Nombo, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, described the conference as a chance to “strengthen international collaboration, attract investment, and chart new strategies for digital inclusion in our education system.”

The conference theme, ‘Rethinking Education and Human Capital Development for Africa’s Prosperity,’ reflects a growing emphasis on equipping African learners with the digital skills and tools required to thrive in a rapidly changing global economy.

In addition to high-level discussions, eLearning Africa 2025 will feature an international exhibition of cutting-edge educational technologies, as well as a showcase of Tanzanian start-ups and local innovators.

Now in its 20th year, eLearning Africa has become a landmark event for educators, technologists, and policymakers across the continent. This year’s edition in Dar es Salaam promises to be one of the most impactful yet – a dynamic forum for knowledge exchange, partnerships, and forward-looking strategies to accelerate digital learning and skills development across Africa.
