President Muhammadu Buhari will declare open the eNigeria 2018 Conference next week Monday. The theme for this year’s event is: “Promoting a Digital Economy in an era of Emerging Technologies through Effective Regulations” in response to the complex mix of digital opportunities and challenges driven by the increasing influence of emerging technologies on the socio-economic aspect of the Nigerian society, said a press statement issued in Abuja today by Head of Corporate Affairs & External Relations, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mrs. Hadiza Umar.
Former anti-corruption czar and pioneer Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ahmed Ribadu will deliver the keynote address of 2018 edition of eNigeria, NITDA’s annual IT flagship conference and exhibition forum which serves as a melting pot for the best brains and ideas in public, private and non-governmental sector.
The eNigeria 2018 includes conference, exhibitions and awards. The three day event holds inside the International Conference Centre, Abuja from 5th to 7th of November, 2018.
President Buhari will further advance the agenda for promoting digital economy, emerging technologies and effective regulations as basis for Nigeria’s entry into the digital economy – the major theme of eNigeria 2018.
The NITDA is the federal government arm responsible for regulating, developing and implementing the National IT Policy in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. eNigeria, provides a platform for brainstorming on emerging technologies, local innovation and relevant ICT issues for the socio-economic development of Nigeria. It is also a platform that brings together professionals, industry players, innovators, startups, policy makers, investors and stakeholders generally with participants cutting across borders. It serves as a veritable platform for the takeoff of indigenous software, networking, exposure, intellectual discussions and policy direction.
Since the maiden edition in 2007, eNigeria has attracted over 25,000 participants, including local and international thought leaders from business, government and academic communities. A total of 150 different speakers and discussants have presented over 100 papers while 200 local and international businesses have exhibited at e-Nigeria over the last ten years. Each year, the e-Nigeria Conference, Exhibitions and Awards attract support from the highest level of political leadership.
President Muhammadu Buhari was the Special Guest at last year’s event. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was the Special Guest at eNigeria 2016.
Partnerships for the nation’s number one IT event have been fostered between the supervisory Ministry of Communications, sister agencies and MDAs including the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), Galaxy Backbone Ltd., NIPOST, NIGCOMSAT, CPN, and NCS, among others.
The 11th Edition of eNigeria is to accelerate the development of, and access to digital products and services to citizens thereby, creating Africa’s largest single digital market by 2020.
Sub themes include: Key Conditions for Unlocking Nigeria’s Digital Market Opportunities; Leveraging Disruptive Technologies to Grow Key Sectors and Industries; Information Technology (IT) Regulation as a Tool for Digital Economy; The New (In) Equality in the Digital Era; and Information Technology(IT) as an Effective Tool of fighting corruption.
Speakers at the event include, the Minister of Communications, Barrister Abdur-Raheem Adebayo Shittu who is also the Chief Host and the Director General of the NITDA, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, who is the Host and Convener of eNigeria 2018.
