A Milestone for Plateau’s Tech Community
In his welcome address, ELCOM Chairman Eric Martyns underscored the significance of the election, stating, “Today is not just about leadership, it’s about setting a precedent for how we govern ourselves as a tech community. This election embodies our shared vision of progress, development, and excellence.” Martyns reaffirmed ELCOM’s commitment to a fair process, urging stakeholders to prioritize collaboration and sportsmanship.
A Vision Realized: Outgoing Chairman Reflects on PLATEC’s Journey
The outgoing Chairman of PLATEC Chief Kope Sylvanus Joseph, in an emotional address, recounted the association’s journey from a personal vision in 2018 to a recognized voice in Plateau State’s tech industry.
He recalled the initial struggle of bringing tech companies together, consulting with key industry players, and securing government recognition. In 2020, following the COVID-19 pandemic, the association officially took shape with the support of the Plateau State Microfinance Development Agency (PLASMIDA) and other stakeholders.
“Since then, PLATEC has contributed immensely to the state’s development. We have provided job opportunities for freelancers, mentored young tech enthusiasts, and built a network that supports innovation,” he noted.
He urged the newly elected executives to carry forward the association’s mission, emphasizing the need for inclusivity and collective responsibility.
This association is for everyone. We must work together to ensure that the vision that brought us here continues to thrive.”
Goodwill Messages Reinforce Support
Key partners, including PLASMIDA, the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), Plateau State Information Communication Development Agency (PIGDA), and the University of Jos ICT Department, praised PLATEC’s impact. Representatives urged the incoming leadership to build on existing frameworks, foster unity, and leverage partnerships for scalable growth.
Looking Ahead
The election sets the stage for PLATEC to amplify its advocacy, mentorship, and innovation programs. With a foundation of 200+ members and cross-sector alliances, Plateau State’s tech community is poised to become a national benchmark for collaboration-driven growth.
