Plateau State Governor, Mr. Caleb Mutfwang, has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to fostering a thriving tech ecosystem as a catalyst for economic growth in the state. Speaking through the Commissioner for Science and Technology Innovation, Professor Nanjul Goselle, Governor Mutfwang conveyed this commitment during the official launch of Jos TechFest 2024 on Thursday.

Themed “Innovating for the Future: Strengthening Plateau State Ecosystem,” this second edition of the annual event underscores the importance of technological innovation and collaboration in shaping Plateau State’s economic future. Jos, the state capital, is home to thriving innovation hubs such as Think Hub, nHub, BlochFuse, Axial, and Kefiano Hub, which play a pivotal role in the local tech ecosystem.

Enabling Infrastructure and Policies

As part of the government’s strategy to nurture the tech ecosystem, Professor Goselle announced that Governor Mutfwang is set to sign the “Right of Way” policy.

“This initiative will allow telecommunications companies to install fiber optics free of charge, ensuring seamless operations and unimpeded connectivity,” Goselle explained. “The policy is designed not only to attract investments but also to create jobs, motivate the youth, and revitalize Plateau State’s economy.”

The commissioner highlighted the state government’s plans to establish a special economic zone to further support the technology and innovation sectors. Participants at Jos TechFest 2024 will benefit from networking opportunities and knowledge-sharing sessions, positioning them to leverage the forthcoming economic zone.

Empowering the Younger Generation

Dominic Gwaman Datong, Director General of the Plateau State Information and Communication Technology Development Agency (PICTDA), emphasized the alignment of the event with Governor Mutfwang’s vision of youth empowerment through skills development.

“This event is a melting pot of ideas and collaboration, enabling participants to address challenges within the tech ecosystem while creating valuable networks,” Datong said.

Local tech leaders also applauded the collective efforts driving Jos TechFest 2024. Timothy Dake, CEO of Zeustek Information Communication Technology Global Solutions, noted the unified approach of tech hubs such as Blue House, Axia Hub, and Zeustek.

“Tech Fest is more than a showcase of innovation; it’s a platform for fostering collaboration and unity among public and private stakeholders,” Dake remarked. “Together, we aim to build a robust tech ecosystem that will spur innovation and drive sustainable growth.”
