The Plateau State Information and Communication Technology Development Agency (PICTDA) has found an ally in Kanke Local Government Area (LGA) of the state with the presentation of laptop computers to Kanke indigenes undergoing the Code Plateau training in Jos, administrative capital of the central Nigerian state.
The tech-tool presentation was sponsored by the Chairman of Kanke LGA, Mr. Emmanuel Lar impressed by the IT skill training being impacted on the LGA’s indigenes.
“Permit me to officially state that Kanke has keyed into the ‘Innovate Plateau’ project that seeks to create innovation clusters so that people can achieve their goals by leveraging on the opportunities afforded them via technology, in the 17 Local Government Areas of Plateau state.
“The Silicon Plateau Project with its flagship programme known as Code Plateau, which is aimed at re-skilling Plateau youths who are interested in kick starting their careers in IT, and preparing them for the Job market, by providing them with a collaborative learning environment and all-around support from technical to industry job readiness, is no doubt a world class initiative and worthy of our support as a Local Government,” said Lar.
The Code Plateau, an initiative of the PICTDA, is designed under the Silicon Plateau framework to expand the economic potentials of Plateau state as well as provide employable skill sets in the state’s young people.
Under the scheme, young people are currently undergoing an eight months boot-camp – a full time immersive training designed to create employment for young Plateau state graduates that want to build a career in IT and kickstart their portfolio of projects that utilize modern and real-workplace technology stacks.
Lar expressed commitment to the Code Plateau initiative and believes Kanke can leverage on the training to rework the LGA’s economy to become more robust and self-sufficient outside of unhealthy dependence on federal allocations.
‘The ongoing Code Plateau Software Development and Digital Skills acquisition training, is in line with the Local Government’s deliberate attempt in fulfilling part of our administration’s third priority area, aimed at Human Capital Development which includes youth development to support this Rescue Administration’s third pillar policy thrust on sustainable economic rebirth, which seeks to aggressively harness the bulging youth population in areas of entrepreneurship and ICT, to key into the strategic approach of PICTDA in creating impact and a new knowledge economy in Plateau State,” added Lar at the presentation ceremony.
“There has never been a time in the history of Plateau State that human capital development has been given a 100% support by the government than now. His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong has reiterated his commitment in ensuring that we have highly productive youth population in the state in what he believes is the basic requirement for industrialisation.
“Plateau state is not only blessed with a youth population but it is currently enjoying technology tourism at a micro scale that the world is not noticing, what we are able to make out of this new narrative is going to be the one of the legacy of the incumbent Governor and we are simply committed to ensuring that no stone is left un-turned in converting this youth population into a productive workforce,” said Director General of PICTDA, Mr. David Daser.
