Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, has commissioned seven more projects across the country as part of the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS).

The additional seven commissioned schemes bring the number of projects established so far under NDEPS by Pantami to over 1, 667 across all geo-political zones in the country.

The projects are designed to consolidate the federal government’s resolve to leverage on technology in bolstering empowerments across sectors.  

The minister noted that the sector had witnessed unprecedented growth both infrastructurally and policy – wise within two years of his assuming office. His words: “when we came on board in August of 2019, the ministry had only one valid policy which was sponsored by the Korean Integration and Cooperation Agency (KOICA). But within the time we have been in office, we have developed 16 national policies and established over 1, 667 digital economy centres. Of the s16 policies we have developed, 12 are already being implemented while four are awaiting approval from the Federal Executive Council.”

The projects numbering seven, ; four digital economy centres with e-learning facilities, domiciled in Abia, Sokoto, Akwa Ibom and Oyo states, a Tertiary Institution Knowledge Centre (TIKC) located in Gombe state, a School Knowledge Centre in Borno state and an Emergency Communication Centre  (ECC) in Kogi State.

“Under the leadership of Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, every state of the federation is a beneficiary of the digital economy projects,” said the Minister’s spokesperson, Mrs. Uwa Suleiman in a statement.

The infrastructures under batch 11 of completed digital economy projects virtually commissioned are:

1. Emergency Communication Centre,  Lokoja, Kogi State. (North Central);

2. School Knowledge Center, Sanda Kyarimi Day Secondary School, Borno State. (North East);

3. Digital Economy Center & E-Learning Facilities, Imam Malik Academy, Sokoto State. (North West);

4. Digital Economy Center & E-Learning Facilities, Nneato Secondary School, Abia State. (South East);

6. Digital Economy Center & E-Learning Facilities, Eleyele Secondary School, Oyo State. (South West); and

7. Tertiary Institution Knowledge Center, Gombe State College of Education, Gombe State. (North East).
