Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, has been promoted to become a Professor of Cybersecurity.

Scholar, technocrat and religious leader, Pantami joins seven Readers (Associate Professors) promoted to Professor by the governing council of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), at its 186th meeting held on Friday, August 20, 2021.

The other Readers are Chikwendu Okereke (Geology), Lawence Ettu (Civil Engineering), Conrad Enenebeaku (Chemistry), Godfrey Emeghara (Maritime Management Technology), Okechukwu Onyelucheya (Chemical Engineering), and Alex Opara (Geology).

The council also approved the recommendation of the Academic Staff Appointment and Promotions Committee (Professorial) for the promotion of nine Senior Lecturers to Readers and two Senior University Librarians to Deputy University Librarians.

Pantami started his academic career as a lecturer in ICT at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi. He joined the Islamic University of Madinah as Head of Technical Writing in 2014 from where he was appointed in 2016 as the Director-General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

Repositioning NITDA to become a more impactful agency, Pantami would later be appointed as the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy in 2019 where he still holds forth with unprecedented landmarks.
