Open Access Data Centres (OADC), Africa’s leading data center provider, has announced the upcoming launch of Open Access Fabric (OAfabric).  This is an open-access, collaborative digital platform set to reshape African interconnection. It will be launched in January 2025 in Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). OAfabric is expected to expand across Africa and internationally, providing interconnection hubs to support the continent’s digital growth. In addition, it will become a key player in the global digital economy.

OAfabric’s platform will significantly reduce costs and boost performance. It will empower local enterprises while attracting global investment to drive Africa’s digital transformation. Leveraging the connectivity expertise of its parent company, the WIOCC Group, OAfabric provides users with improved access to internet ecosystems. They include leading African Internet Exchange Points (IXPs), local and international content providers, and cloud operators. The platform will enable site-to-site and user-to-user connectivity. This makes it an ideal solution for both African businesses and international companies seeking to expand in the region.

OAfabric  is future of digital infrastructure on the continent

“OAfabric is engineered to address the rising demand for advanced interconnection across Africa. This platform represents the future of digital infrastructure on the continent by reducing costs. [It also] enhances connectivity, and enables local businesses to thrive,” said Obinna Adumike, OADC’s Head of Converged Digital Infrastructure. “We’re building the digital future of Africa, with OAfabric at the core of this transformation.”

Hosted initially within OADC’s colocation data centers, OAfabric offers a full range of services, including IX peering, virtual interconnection, private cloud access, and future IP services. With a comprehensive, integrated approach, clients can benefit from robust connectivity spanning multiple networks, providing a scalable and adaptable solution that caters to Africa’s digital landscape. OAfabric also allows direct connections to public cloud on-ramps, supporting data sovereignty while fostering local provider development.

Designed to evolve alongside Africa’s digital needs, OAfabric will support hybrid colocation architectures and enable dynamic, future-ready infrastructure for companies across Africa. This unique adaptability positions OAfabric as a critical tool for businesses, promoting interconnection ecosystems that support local growth and innovation.

“OAfabric establishes open-access ecosystems that are critical for Africa’s digital transformation,” added Adumike. “Our goal is to foster vibrant interconnection ecosystems that drive Africa’s growth, connecting businesses locally and globally.”

With the launch of OAfabric, OADC is creating a powerful foundation for digital innovation, offering Africa a competitive edge in the global digital economy.
