About Dr. Shaibu Husseini
Dr. Husseini is a renowned theatre, film, and culture expert, known for his deep contributions to Nigeria’s film industry, Nollywood. A public relations and mass communication specialist, he has over three decades of experience in film criticism, journalism, academia, and regulatory governance.
- A leading documentarist of Nollywood, he has served as Chair of the Selection Committee of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) for 16 consecutive years and is a member of its prestigious jury.
- He authored Moviedom: The Nollywood Narratives, a monograph documenting the pioneers of Nigeria’s film industry.
- Before becoming DG of NFVCB, he was a senior journalist with The Guardian newspaper, covering film and cultural affairs.
- He holds a First-Class BSc in Mass Communication from Lagos State University, an MSc (Distinction) and PhD in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos.
- Dr. Husseini is a Senior Teaching and Research Fellow at the University of Lagos, contributing significantly to media studies and cultural discourse.
