The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited has officially opened entries for the 2025 Nigeria Prize for Science and Literature, with a strong emphasis on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Technologies. This year’s edition aims to promote groundbreaking innovations and celebrate literary excellence, reflecting the transformative role of technology and storytelling in national development.

In a statement signed by Anne-Marie Palmer-Ikuku, NLNG’s Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Manager, the company announced that the Science Prize will recognize innovations in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), AI, and Digital Technologies that have the potential to drive socio-economic development. Meanwhile, the Literature Prize will focus on Prose Fiction, calling for submissions from Nigerian authors worldwide.

AI and Digital Innovation: A Path to Economic Growth

NLNG’s decision to spotlight AI and digital transformation aligns with global trends, as emerging technologies continue to reshape economies, industries, and job markets. According to recent studies, AI is projected to add between $2.6 trillion and $4.4 trillion to global corporate profits annually, highlighting its growing influence on business and governance.

Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Science Prize, Prof. Barth Nnaji, emphasized the potential of AI to leapfrog traditional development challenges, especially in emerging economies like Nigeria.

“Our goal is to celebrate groundbreaking solutions that can directly impact Nigeria’s journey toward sustainable development. Artificial Intelligence is not just a tool but a game-changer that can optimize agriculture, healthcare, and digital infrastructure, transforming the way we approach national growth,” Nnaji stated.

The Nigeria Prize for Science is open to global scientists, researchers, and innovators whose completed works demonstrate a tangible impact and proof of concept. The winner will receive a $100,000 cash prize in recognition of their contribution to science and technology advancement.

Prose Fiction: Storytelling as a Reflection of Society

Chairperson of the Advisory Board for the Literature Prize, Prof. Akachi Adimora-Ezeigbo, highlighted the power of storytelling in shaping collective experiences and inspiring change.

Prose literature is a mirror of society. Through storytelling, we explore our history, challenges, and aspirations while envisioning a better future,” she said.

The Nigeria Prize for Literature is open to Nigerian authors worldwide, with a focus on books published from 2022 onward. Writers have the opportunity to compete for the prestigious $100,000 prize, one of the richest literary awards in Africa.
