Director General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, has called for more strengthening of Nigeria’s cybersecurity architecture in order to promote its digital ecosystem.
Abdullahi made the call at the recently held ‘GISEC Global Africa Program in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). The program was one of the major highlights of the annual Gulf Information Security Exhibition and Conference (GISEC), organised by the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), an agency of the UAE’s government.

While presenting a paper titled: ‘Strengthening Nigeria’s Digital Ecosystem: Implementing Effective Cybersecurity Frameworks,’ Abdullahi stressed major achievements of the Nigerian government in cybersecurity including issuance of Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR), establishment of National Data Protection Bureau (NDPB 2022), Cybercrime Act and Cybersecurity Strategy, establishment of Computer Emergency Readiness and Response Teams (CERRTs) and continuous training and capacity buildings of Nigerians across the public and private sectors.
He told the audience majorly of IT information security experts from across the Middle East, Africa and Asia (MEAA) of Nigeria’s increasing readiness to make cyberspace safer for its burgeoning online community.
The GISEC is the largest exhibition and conference on cybersecurity in MEAA. The audience at the ‘GISEC Global Africa Program included government dignitaries and cyber leaders, regional and international innovators, and global experts all focused to decisively lead cybersecurity transformations across sectors and nations.
The Nigerian delegation to GISEC 2022 was led by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, who had earlier made a presentation tasking African governments on leveraging a common policy and technical approach to a continent-wide cybersecurity.
