The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Nigeria’s IT regulatory body, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) are to explore and strengthen synergy on IT projects implementation.

The two government bodies expressed this desire during a courtesy visit this week to the NITDA by an NNPC delegation led by led by the Group General Manager, Information Technology Division, Mr. Danladi Inuwa Alhaji.

While welcoming his guests, the Director General, NITDA, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami states: “Information Technology projects cannot be implemented in silos, there is the need for synergy in implementation.”

The NITDA’s boss has championed a cohesive approach to IT projects implementation across government’s ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to reduce waste, cut cost and avoid duplication.

According to Alhaji, the NNPC delegation was in NITDA to get information on the IT Project Clearance as directed by the federal government for all MDAs, and also establish a channel of communication between the agency and the NNPC.

The NNPC is the publicly owned oil corporation through which the Nigerian government regulates and participates in the country’s petroleum industry.

As part of the efforts to sanitize IT projects implementation in the public sector, the federal government, had in a “circular SGF/6/S.19/T/65 of 18th April 2006, mandated Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to seek clearance from NITDA before deploying any IT project in the country.”

The circular makes it obligatory for all MDAs to seek clearance before executing any IT project.
