As the International Children’s Day holds today, Thursday, May 27, Jos, capital city of Plateau state, is hosting the first ever Nigeria Teen Cyber Festival: ngTeenCyberFest 2021 with the theme: ‘Harnessing the Power of Young People Online in the Digital Age’.

The event, a mix of virtual and physical meet, is featuring some of Nigeria’s iconic and tech leaders including Director General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mallam Kachifu Inuwa Abdullahi with a short presentation on “NITDA’s Policy as an affirmation that Future is Youth, Technology & Innovation – And Future’s now”; Director General, National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Jelani Aliyu making a presentatipn on “Imagine it, Innovate it. Design it. Cyberspace and youths”; Managing Director, Nigerian Communication Satellite Ltd, Dr Abimbola Alale who is speaking on: “The Internet can make a better You – In the Internet Age, Gender is Not a Disadvantage”; and Director General, Plateau State ICT Development Agency (PICTDA), Mr. Daser David with a on “Exploring Opportunities and Using the Internet to Empower Young People on the Plateau.”

The ngTeenCyberFest 2021 enjoys the support of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Africa Digital Economy Forum (ADEF).
The UN body is speaking on “Cyberspace as a Vast New World to making a Better World of Education, Science and Cultures for Young People” while ADEF’s remarks will centre on the capacity of Africa’s young population to drive and sustain the continent’s transition into the digital economy.
The event is powered by Zinox Technologies, Smartweb Limited, Konn3ct and Qitech Limited as Digital Partners. The media partners include TechEconomy,ng and IT Edge News.ng

A gathering of young people, the event is drawing representations from local and international participants as Nigeria, with more than 200million people, is home to Africa’s most active young people online.
The Teen Focus for fire chats at ngTeenCyberFest 2021 is: ‘Can the Internet Make a Better Teen; Make Things Better for Teens? Opportunities and Challenges in Cyberspace.’
“Organizers have carefully selected high-achievers among young people, who in spite of their age, have demonstrated our conviction that young people will lead Nigeria’s tech future,” said CEO/Co-Founder CC-Pro, Delmwa Gogwim and convener of the ngTeenCyberFest 2021.
With over 40 schools participating, the physical part of the event is holding under strict COVID-19 protocol. The participants are providing the rallying ground for the series of fire chats/discussions led by young people focused on: “Can the Internet Make Better Teens; Make Things Better for Teens,” added Gogwim.

The Nigerian Teen Cyber Festival is admitting insights and presentations on how regulatory authorities as well as other stakeholders including private enterprises could work to harness the unlimited potential of cyberspace as a tool for national development through young people.
