Nigeria offers both a consumer and a skill market; and holds the ace for faster returns on investment in Africa. Despite economic downturns and infrastructure challenges, Africa’s largest population of over 180 million people offer some of the brightest investment spots on the continent particularly for the technology sector. This was the message of the Director General of National Informational Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES), Las Vegas during the Interim Meeting of World Electronics Forum (WEF). The CES is the world’s gathering place for all consumer technologies and it is promoted by the trade association representing the $292 billion U.S. consumer technology industry. The CES attracts the world’s business leaders and pioneering thinkers to a global event where the industry’s pressing issues are addressed.
The World Electronics Forum is one of the major highlights of the CES and brings together electronics leaders from around the world to discuss key topics impacting global electronics industry.
Pantami, who led the Nigerian delegation to CES 2018 including Dr. Vincent Olatunji, director of eGovernment and Hajia Hadiza Umar, head of Corporate Communications, said the country holds great potential for global industry giants seeking for new markets and also desiring to harness a skill-pool to advance the frontiers of their markets and innovation.

“Nigeria is the giant of Africa, a country with an approximate population of 180 million people dominated by the youths whom are ICT natives eager to explore ICT for economic diversification and also a safe haven for ICT Investments” said Pantami as quoted in the official Twitter handle of the NITDA.
“NITDA is at CES to network, brainstorm, learn from other nations and professionals in the industry with the aim of fostering the growth of Information Technology in Nigeria,” added Pantami.
As part of the leverage points at the CES, Pantami and the NITDA’s team held series of meetings with representatives of Communications, Multimedia and Infrastructure (CMAI), India, to collaborate in areas of capacity building, digital job creation and technology transfer.
Meanwhile at the CES 2018, Gionee, one of the new Chinese mobile phone companies fast deepening its reach in Nigeria, launched the world’s first China smartphone wireless charging in partnership with ConvenientPower Systems.

According to ConvenientPower Systems, the new solution is the world first Chinese smartphone to integrate Qi and fast wireless charging for China, the world’s largest market, consisting of 1.38 billion mobile users.
Gionee is a leading China smartphone brand that focuses on delivering design-forward, high performance cameras and power charging options for mobile users across the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia and Southeast Asia. In Nigeria, the brand is fast gaining acceptance as one of the most sought devices.
