The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has established 83 digital job creation centres across the country to ensure digital inclusion and broaden opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship for millions of Nigerians,
The Director General of the NITDA, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, this week in Abuja revealed this to an audience of ICT stakeholders at the 24th Annual Information Technology Professionals Assembly of the Computers Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN).
The conference with the theme: ‘Professionalism in Information Technology; Past, Present and Future’, coincided with the 25th anniversary of the CPN with the induction of 309 members into the profession.
“No country can develop without ICT. NITDA in 2017 deployed 86 digital job creation centres and has already deployed 83 this year across the country with a minimum of 15 computers available,” said Pantami who was represented by NITDA’s Director of IT Infrastructure Solutions (ITIS), Dr Usman Gambo.
“The centres have created jobs for many and is serving as a way of [ending] poverty in our society,” Pantami added as he explained that ICT centres were in conformity with the agency’s mandate to create jobs and enhance skills.
According to him, NITDA had established over 500 digital job creation centres helping to drive digital growth in the country since 2010.
