This was reiterated by Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, NITDA’s Director General, during the third edition of the TeXcellence Conference in Lagos. Themed “Revealing Tomorrow,” the conference was hosted by CWG Plc. It brought together technology experts, business leaders, and innovators to discuss the latest trends and solutions in the tech industry.
NITDA is transforming Nigeria’s digital landscape
Abdullahi was represented at the event by Dr. Aristotle Onumo, NITDA’s Director of Stakeholder Management and Partnerships. He highlighted the agency’s ongoing efforts to transform Nigeria’s digital landscape through its Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (SRAP) 2.0 for 2024-2027. In his address, titled “Policy to Implementation: Collaborative Approach to National Digital Growth,” Abdullahi emphasized NITDA’s “digital social contract” with the community. This contract focuses on empowering Nigerians and driving economic development through eight strategic pillars.
“Our goal is to make Nigeria a digitally empowered nation that fosters inclusive economic growth through technological innovation,” Abdullahi stated. “We have realigned our structure. Also, recalibrated our systems, and relaunched our strategy to better align with the federal government’s vision and the goals of our supervising ministry.” He noted that NITDA’s approach is grounded in the principles of clarity, collective responsibility, and a commitment to challenging the status quo.
During the presentation, the eight strategic pillars of SRAP 2.0 were discussed in detail. He outlined their importance, focus, and success indicators. The strategy aims to adapt to the rapidly evolving global digital landscape, and address socio-economic disparities. It is designed to confront cybersecurity challenges, and establish Nigeria as a leader in digital literacy and tech talent development.
Commitment to inclusivity, bridging digital gaps
Abdullahi highlighted the agency’s commitment to inclusivity particularly in bridging digital gaps. Others are addressing gender imbalances, and supporting people with functional needs. He also called for increased partnerships to elevate six indigenous tech events to global prominence.
“Collaboration and partnership are essential gateways to economic prosperity and critical elements for maximizing impact. Our strategy, rooted in the digital innovation ecosystem, is about creating digital value for the future through regulatory insights. I encourage everyone to join us in shaping a new digital future for Nigeria,” Abdullahi concluded.
NITDA’s SRAP 2.0 roadmap positions Nigeria to be at the forefront of digital transformation. The roadmap is to ensure Nigeria’s readiness for the digital era while creating opportunities for sustainable growth and innovation.
