Farmers in Jigawa State are undergoing training in smart agriculture under the National Adopted Village for Smart Agriculture (NAVSA) programme, a digital platform conceived by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), under the supervision of Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy for transformation of the agriculture sector in Nigeria.
The NAVSA is in line with the agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty. More than 130 farmers have already been adopted to pilot the NAVSA which is designed at digitalizing agriculture within the framework of the digital economy in a revolutionary move to improve the agriculture value chain.by leveraging innovative technology tools.
NITDA plans to adopt farmers in all the 774 LGAs across the country. The NAVSA platform is accessible to stakeholders in Nigeria’s agriculture ecosystem in a way that will allow them leverage information to improve productivity, reduce the cost of production, and gain access to local and international markets.
“NAVSA will make farming smarter, support agriculture with technology, help farmers to build sustainable and profitable business models, and explore digital business opportunities across the entire value chain in the agriculture sector,” said the Director General of the NITDA, Mallam Inuwa Kashifu Abdullahi.
Training for PLWD
Meanwhile, the NITDA in Kano State, north western Nigeria, has extended its capacity development programme to Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWD) in order to effectively improve their financial independence in pursuing their livelihood.
The programme is open to all Nigerians that are living with any form of disability residing within Kano city. It will focus on the clusters of persons living with hearing and/or speech impairment, visual impairment, and the physically challenged persons.
This will enhance participants’ information literacy, internet research skills, and presentation skills. Previous editions have held at different states in the country.
