The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), will today, in collaboration with Ekiti State government, kick off the empowerment programme for 140 farmers in the state through the National Adopted Village for Smart Agriculture (NAVSA) programme.
The initiative is holding under the supervision of Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.
NAVSA is an ecosystem and data-driven platform designed to transform Nigeria’s agricultural sector leveraging technology.
The programme is targeting to help the federal government in its drive to create more jobs for the country’s huge young population in the agriculture sector. The key objectives of NAVSA include to improve food productivity, wealth and income of farmers, deepen the agriculture value chain, and promote access to international food markets.
Piloted in Jigawa state earlier this year, the project was initiated to systematically adopt farmers across the 774 local government areas (LGAs) in the country in order to equip them with necessary digital skills that will make Nigeria one of the leading nations for smart agriculture.
