Despite facing harsh criticism for its perceived stagnation and failure to capitalize on earlier promises to drive e-commerce and locational services, Odeyemi emphasised the current leadership’s dedication to transforming NIPOST. She said NIPOST was being reworked into a dynamic entity that adds value to government operations and positively impacts ordinary Nigerians.

Reforms to improve customer service quality

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of a three-day management retreat in Abuja, Odeyemi highlighted that the ongoing reforms focus on key areas such as revenue generation, partnerships, and financial services. Others are courier and logistics, last-mile delivery, and the digitization of NIPOST services to improve customer service quality.

She assured that the full digitization of postal operations would address longstanding issues like mail loss. Among the key initiatives driving NIPOST’s growth is a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN). This partnership aims to reduce the cost of moving goods and services by 15% for the 22 million businesses registered with SMEDAN.

Additionally, NIPOST plans to leverage its presence across all 774 local government areas to enhance efficiency and service delivery. Odeyemi noted that improving service quality is a top priority for the over 100 NIPOST management staff involved in the retreat.

“The Federal Government, in line with its ‘Renewed Hope Agenda,’ is committed to making NIPOST an affordable, last-mile delivery hub for goods and services,” she said. Odeyemi further emphasized that aligning postal services with national goals and upgrading logistics and courier processes to world-class standards are essential for NIPOST’s relevance and customer trust.
