The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) is partnering operators of eGate and Visa to facilitate digital financial services and issuing of payment cards across Nigeria.

The new deal will bring financial inclusion to more than 38 million Nigerians, according to the Postmaster General/CEO, NIPOST, Dr. Ismail Adebayo Adewusi.

He said partnership is part of NIPOST’s strategic plan to provide financial inclusion services to millions of Nigerians outside of the ongoing Nigeria’s digital transformation by the government across sectors.

The deal allows NIPOST to provide digital financial services using Visa credit and prepaid cards to unbanked customers in a way that supports financial inclusion, government e-services and cashless society.

His words:  “Today we take this plan forward by signing with eGate, one of the leaders on digital transformation and our consultant who leads our digital transformation plan and Visa, the world leader in digital payments.”

Months back, NIPOST inked a fresh Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) over technology-based delivery and self-service systems to improve its overall services. The MoU with e-Gate covers last mile delivery services while that of Access Solutions will facilitate self-service kiosks for daily need transactions. The deal with Lleida.net to leverage its Registered Communication System will allow the postal agency play more efficiently in Nigeria’s burgeoning digital economy.
