She announced this during the Stakeholders Consultation Forum in Nigeria Digital Identification for Development Project (NDID4D), themed “Fostering Inclusion and Feedback Mechanism in the Nigeria Digital (ID4D) Project.”
The collaborative effort aims to leverage the National Identity Numbers (NIN) and Subscribers Identity Modules (SIM) databases to track and apprehend kidnappers while ensuring the safe rescue of victims. Although specific details of the collaboration were not disclosed, Odusote emphasized that identified gaps were being addressed collectively by stakeholders to enhance national security.
During the forum, Odusote, represented by her Technical Assistant, Mrs. Ayobami Abiola, highlighted the ongoing efforts to close identified loopholes. NIMC and NCC, in tandem with security agencies, are working towards utilizing infrastructure and relevant information to confront the prevailing security challenges in the country.
Emphasizing the significance of the National Identity Number (NIN) for citizens, Odusote noted that its implementation aims to reduce corruption instances and facilitate the execution of strategic development plans. She reiterated President Bola Tinubu’s concerns about the fragmented identity system in the country, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to unifying the national identity system for all Nigerians.
“The President has expressed worry over our fragmented identity system, which is causing the country huge losses in expenditure and has given us marching orders to ensure we integrate and unify our identity system,” added Odusote.
