To ensure more transparency and ease of working on the report of the Auditor-General of the Federation, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the House of Representatives has unveiled its ICT hub and website.
The PAC said it is leveraging technology to ensure a more open approach to accountability and ensuring a broader scrutinizing of government spends public funds.
The PAC is one of the standing committees of the green chamber of the apex parliament. It oversees how public funds are expended by public officials in ministries departments and agencies (MDAs). The PAC has oversight responsibility over the Auditor-General of the Federation.
“We are committed to using technology for more effectiveness in doing this job,” said Chairman of the House Committee Hon Kingsley Chinda (Rivers, PDP) who led other members of the committee to unveil the ICT hub and website.
Chinda said the committee has representatives from all the 36 states of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
He said the new ICT tools affirmed the committee’s commitment from the onset to raise the standard of its work from paper publication to digital means in order to achieve speed, more effectiveness and greater sense of scrutiny of public funds.
Not surprisingly, Chinda said the committee had cleared all the queries raised from the report of the Auditor-General of the Federation to it from 2010-2014.
To further improve the capacity of the committee to deliver, the PAC’s chairman said it was embarking on ICT capacity building skills for staff of the House.
