Nigeria’s two startups, Chiniki Guard and 247Medic, that emerged as semi-finalists at the GITEX 2019 Supernova challenge have continued their winning streaks to become finalists and closer home to pocketing the $100,000 grand prize.

They join about 33 other startups, the global panelists trimmed down from nearly a thousand from more than 97 countries to become the 112 semi-finalists and then to the last standing 35 who made the final list.
The eventual winner will be selected from these 35 finalists in the ultimate pitch tomorrow, Wednesday October 9, at the 10x Stage, 15 hours inside the GITEX Hall.
The format will be 4 minute pitch and 2 minute Q&A.
The two Nigerian startups have received commendations from the Minister of Communications, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, and leader of a powerful Nigerian delegation to the on-going GITEX Technology Week.
In an opening remark to declare the Nigerian Country Pavilion at the five day tech expo opened on Sunday, he said the two startups sponsored by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) to the event have demonstrated the creativity of young innovators in Nigeria, even as he emphasized that mentoring remains the cornerstone of making young people thrive with sustainable and impactful ideas.
Getting into the semi-final and the final lists puts a startup within the radar of global investors and could be a game changer for any startup.

Chiniki Guard leverages artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor a human activity; it is a recognition service that provides real-time update by analysing a video feed. It helps to detect and instantly prevent crimes or violations. The video analysis software can easily classify what action a shopper is taking, suspicious actions are flagged and reported instantly.
