All short codes across networks have become effectively merged by the
Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

While some subscribes are expressing inability to get services through the new shortcodes, the telecoms regulator assured that the glitches are only temporary.

The regulator had set a deadline of May 17, 2023, for all mobile networks to fully migrate from hitherto diverse short codes to the harmonised codes.

Subscribers may now only access services from their operators using the harmonised short codes. Whether  you are on MTN, Airtel, Glo or 9mobile, only the new short codes will work.

“The harmonisation of shortcodes is aimed at implementing a streamlined process for common shortcodes across the industry, by making life easier for Nigerians through the memorisation of single codes, for various services across all networks as well as providing a cohesive regulatory framework that is consistent with global best practices,” said Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) hin a joint statement made in March by its Chairman, Gbenga Adebayo and Head of Operations, Gbolahan Awonuga.
