The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has commended the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) for its achievements as the IT regulatory agency turned 20 this week.
The NCC and NITDA are sister-agencies under the purview of the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.
Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta, said the agency has met the expectations of Nigerians in the past 20 years of its existence.
While speaking during the NITDA @20 Anniversary conference in Abuja this week, the NCC’s boss commended the current Director General of the agency, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, all past CEOs and directors of the IT regulatory agency for contributing to regulatory dynamism and IT developments that have defined two decades of NITDA.
Abdullahi who thanked the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, for his dedication to NITDA and other sister agencies, said NITDA has evolved over the last 20 years to become one of the most significant tools with which government has provisioned IT for development across sectors.
NITDA’s creation is Nigeria’s resolution on digital transformation
NITDA’s creation symbolized Nigeria’s resolution to embrace digital transformation and the story of NITDA explains Nigeria’s journey to a digital economy, said Abdullahi at the event.
NITDA is working assiduously to help Nigeria catch the train of the 4th industrial revolution without leaving any sector of the economy behind, the NITDA’s boss added.
While Danbatta expressed that much still needs to be done as the technology sector is highly dynamic, he expressed conviction that NITDA’s current leadership has the will and knowledge to not only respond to the industry dynamics but also proactively lead the sector.
Abdullahi agreed no less. While affirming that “NITDA has played critical roles in national development by providing the legal framework for information technology development and pioneering IT developmental projects, he said the agency is already geared up to lead Nigeria’s 21st century digital agenda.
His words: “With this important milestone in carrying out our mandates, we think our 20th-anniversary worth celebrating. Since its establishment, NITDA has evolved in many aspects and responded to its mandates’ dynamics.”
