Nigeria’s Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has assured that Nigeria’s pursuit of a data-driven economy is fostered on development of technology and young talents.
Osinbajo who made the remark during the recent Google for Nigeria event said the Buhari’s administration is committed to developing young talents in the technology space and refocusing the countries growth strategies from being oil-depended to ICT and other spheres.
Economic diversification and foreign investments are top agenda of the government and technology and youth development are critical elements of these agenda, Osinbajp told his audience in Lagos.
“Our goal is to create a data-driven digital economy; one that will lead the way not just in Africa, but globally as well. And I believe strongly that Nigeria is on the right path. We have the people, the talents, we have a government that sees the potential very clearly, and is showing the determination to unlock that potential,” said Osinbajo.
The vice president said government was employing all resources to ensure that challenges are mitigated. Part of the actions taken is the recently inaugurated Advisory Group on Technology and Creativity. The group, led by the vice president, recently had a road show to the Silicon Valley in San Francesco and Hollywood in Los Angeles, California USA.
According to him, the challenges that could hinder investments are being curbed. “We are certainly very excited about the prospects of not just investments, but being able to think through some of the challenges, and we think we are a good place to experiment with regulation. We are very open and ready to see what it is that will work, because we believe that we are able to unlock the potential in Nigeria,” said Osinbajo.
