The Rector of the Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, Ogun State, Mr. Isaiah Oyeyinka, has announced plans by the school to establish its ICT Application Development Centre.

The centre will help develop mobile applications and software solutions to address different needs across industry verticals, and also become a strong training ground for students in software engineering. The centre will be inaugurated during the school’s convocation day this week, Saturday, 29th September.

The new centre is designed to further help in closing the gap in technical education and bring gown closer to town in a way that makes education more functional to industries, said Oyeyinka while he appealed to the federal government to invest more in technical education and high skill building in young people.

The centre hopes to partner with Google, Facebook, Oracle and Microsoft. These global giants are expected to join the CISCO Network Academy, which has long been in partnership with the polytechnic.

The Gateway (ICT) Polytechnic was formally commissioned in June, 2006 by the Ogun State government as a publicly owned institution. All the courses of study on offer have high ICT content. The goal of the polytechnic is that on graduation, irrespective of the course of study, every student will end up with a professional ICT certification in addition to either the National Diploma (ND) or the Higher National Diploma (HND.
