Pantami virtual launch

Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, this week in Abuja, virtually commissioned 12 ‘Digital Nigeria’ completed projects and also flagged off digital capacity development programmes for artisans in five different locations across Nigeria.

The commissioned projects include E-library, Federal College of Education (Technical) Bichi, Kano State; ICT Innovation Hub, Ibadan, Oyo State; E-Accessibility Centre, Government School for the Deaf, Malumfashi, Katsina State; Virtual Examination Centre; Digital Capacity Training Centre; and Emergency Communication Center (ECC).

Others are Enugu State College of Education (Technical), Enugu State; Digital Capacity Training Centre located at Elkanemi College of Islamic Theology, Yola, Adamawa State; School Knowledge Center (SKC), AUD High School, Ikole Ekiti, Ekiti State; and Emergency Communication Center, Kano, Kano State.

Similarly, digital capacity development programmes taking place in Suleja, Niger State; Lautech, Oyo State; FCE, Okene, Kogi State; NIIT, Owerri, Imo State and Benchils School, Warri Delta State were officially flagged off by the minister.

In his remarks, Dr Pantami stated that the projects commissioned were spread across all geopolitical zones of the country in line with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy for a Digital Nigeria (NDEPS).

He noted that President Muhammadu Buhari had unveiled the NDEPS last November with a marching order to the ministry to drive its implementation.

“We are committed to the implementation of NDEPS for a Digital Nigeria”, said Pantami.

He added that the projects were  conceptualized to key into the three focused areas of President Buhari’s led administration –  enhancing the security, reviving the economy and eradicating corruption through information technology.

Chairman of the occasion, Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State commended the transparency and accountability exhibited in the digital sector under Pantami who he described as a man of wisdom.

Other special guests during the virtual commissioning are Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo and Minister of State for Works and Housing, Abubakar Aliyu.
