The Nigerian delegation currently participating at the World Hackers’ Competition has sailed through to the finals of the competition. The team, Naija Cybersec Force emerged eight in the nomination rounds of the Global Cyberlympics, the international hacking Olympics after an impressive display of wit and creativity at their given tasks.
The Naija Cybersec team became the only African team in the top ten category in the 12-hour competition that saw over 134 teams across the world participate in the challenge.
Australia were the big winners with 6 teams, Europe followed behind with 2 wins including top place, North America completed the list of qualifiers.
The Nigerian team also emerged winners in the African regional contest, coming top of 24 teams that competed in Africa.
Atlanta, Georgia will host the finals of the competition on the 13th of September.
Global CyberLympics is an international online cybersecurity competition, dedicated to finding the top computer network defense teams. This event tests the skills of information assurance professionals in teams of 4 to 6 people in the areas of ethical hacking, computer network defense and computer forensics. Each round serves as an elimination round until only winning teams remain. The top winning teams from every continent get invited to play the game live in person at the world finals.
The success of Naija Cybersec Force could underscore the increasing interest of the Nigerian government in the empowerment of youths using ICT to produce the next generation of digital innovators. Government is increasing engaging young people and amassing support for innovation hubs across the country.
