The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has launched a crime reporting app for citizens to report cases or areas where insecurity is prevalent as part of the moves to engage citizens in crime prevention and monitoring as well as to build public confidence in the police. The app is launched partnership with software giant Microsoft, Web Assets Nigeria Limited, and BBGN&K.
The new app, dubbed Hawk Eye, will enable users report crimes anonymously to the police by video, voice or text. Hawk Eye features facial recognition and KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators).
Speaking at the launch Mr. Kayode Aladesuyi, Chief Executive Officer, Web Assets, noted that security of life and property is an indispensable ingredient for national growth and development.
“Hawk Eye is a demonstration of the commitment of the Nigerian Police to work in partnership with communities and the Nigerian public to continue to improve the security situation across the country,” he said.
The app which is accessible in English and the common native languages: Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba and Pidgin and is already live for use as a pilot scheme by citizens in Abuja a debut in Lagos by September. Other states will follow in a gradual rollout scheme.
Hawk Eye was developed by Lagos-based tech firm, Web Assets Nigeria Limited, in partnership with US-based tech firms, BBGN&K and Microsoft.
