This milestone marks a renewed commitment by the Federal Government to strengthen Galaxy Backbone’s governance and operational efficiency as a critical enabler of national digital infrastructure. The reconstitution comes as part of broader efforts to position Nigeria as a key player in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Speaking at the event, Senator Akume highlighted the pivotal role of Galaxy Backbone in delivering digital public infrastructure.
“Our shared goal is to transform Galaxy Backbone into a more agile, responsive, and impactful institution—one that drives digital service delivery, connectivity, and innovation across Nigeria,” he said.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration, transparency, and shared accountability between the new Board and the Executive Management, noting that the success of the digital transformation agenda hinges on unified leadership.
Galaxy Backbone’s Managing Director/CEO, Professor Ibrahim A. Adeyanju, welcomed the newly appointed Board members and presented a strategic overview of the company’s achievements and goals. He noted that despite operating without a Board for over a year, GBB successfully launched the Integrated Digital Transformation Strategy (IDTS) 2025–2028, a bold roadmap to modernize the country’s ICT infrastructure.
Key pillars of the IDTS
- Upgrading Nigeria’s National ICT Backbone
- Fostering inclusive digital ecosystems that connect government, businesses, and citizens
- Leveraging AI, Blockchain, and emerging technologies for smarter service delivery
- Strengthening cybersecurity and digital trust
- Diversifying revenue streams for long-term sustainability
The strategy aligns with the priorities of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
“Your inauguration marks a turning point in our journey. We are confident that your insights and leadership will catalyze our growth and deepen our national impact,” Adeyanju said.
Following the inauguration, Senator Akume and the Board members toured the National Shared Services Centre (NSSC)—GBB’s state-of-the-art headquarters. They inspected key components of Nigeria’s digital public infrastructure including the Uptime Certified Tier III Data Centre, Security Operations Centre, and Network Operations Centre.
Impressed by the scale and capabilities of the infrastructure, Senator Akume commended Galaxy Backbone’s efforts and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s support for leveraging digital platforms to drive economic development, governance, and innovation.
