Nigerians farmers are to receive modern farming aid from their Danish counterparts, the Consul-General of Denmark in Lagos, Mr. Per Christensen has revealed.
The envoy made the statement at a One-day Danish Food Tech Exhibition and Seminar in Lagos. He stated that Danish companies are prepared to introduce modern farming technology to farmers in Nigeria in an effort to increase productivity.
According to him, Nigeria has the capacity to feed about 600 million people if the right technology and tools are applied, noting that the land, population and weather are catalyst to this.
“Let me say that the agricultural development potential in Nigeria is bigger than that of Brazil when Nigerian farmers engage in technology farming.
“Nigeria can produce food for 600 million people through the application of the right technology,” he said.
He stated that Nigeria need to devote herself to increasing food production through farming technology as well as returning to the position of a net food exporter.
The visiting Danish companies are competent in areas of logistics and cold chain, breeding and genetics, agro-industry and processing equipment, food and grain analytical equipment, ingredient and financing.
He said that the development of agriculture should be an important area of collaboration in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as both countries hold common interest in agriculture.
Christensen noted that the Food Tech Exhibition and Seminar was organized to engage stakeholders in the Nigerian agricultural sector while exposing them to the existing technology for food processing, production and value chain.
