In a significant boost to the country’s tech sector, Nigeria will host the world’s largest technology fair, GITEX, for the first time in 2025. This milestone was confirmed through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by the Federal Government, represented by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), and KAOUN International, the organizers of GITEX.

The NITDA expressed this in an official statement confirming reports by the media including IT Edge News yesterday in Marrakech, Morocco.
The agreement, signed by Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director General and CEO of NITDA, and Trixie LohMirmand, CEO of KAOUN International, was announced in Marrakech, Morocco. In a statement, Inuwa highlighted the importance of bringing GITEX to Nigeria, stating, “Hosting GITEX will bring the best tech conference experience to our country.”
This strategic move aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to reform the economy and foster sustained growth through trade and economic diversification. Abdullahi emphasized, “President Tinubu is committed to economic diversification and has mandated us to facilitate this transformation.”
In today’s interconnected world, economic prosperity depends on engaging with global markets. President Tinubu has directed government agencies to support initiatives that contribute to economic diversification, promote innovation, and create an environment conducive to technological advancement.
“The President’s directive is clear: we must build bridges with the rest of the world and leverage these connections to boost our economic growth. GITEX Nigeria will provide a platform for our tech ecosystem to shine, showcasing Nigeria as a hub of innovation and creativity,” Abdullahi added.
Trixie LohMirmand expressed excitement about the partnership, praising Nigeria’s impressive performance in GITEX pitch competitions and highlighting the country’s potential in sectors such as AI, digital health, and fintech. “By bringing GITEX to Nigeria, we aim to explore the country’s potential and integrate the Nigerian tech scene with the wider GITEX network, offering Nigerian startups a platform to connect with new markets,” she said.
While the exact date for GITEX Nigeria has yet to be announced, this agreement marks a significant step in positioning Nigeria as a key player in the global tech scene. It reaffirms President Tinubu’s commitment to economic diversification and international trade integration, driving a comprehensive strategy to transform Nigeria’s economy.
