“Agriculture plays a crucial role in Nigeria’s economy, contributing 25% of the country’s GDP in 2023, and technology can transform how we maximize this sector. One such innovation is soil monitoring technology, which predicts crop outcomes. During my visit to TD4PAI—an NGO and Internet of Things (IoT) hub—I had the opportunity to learn firsthand about their groundbreaking initiatives,” said CEO of NIGCOMSAT, Mrs. Jane Egerton-Idehen.

She added, “I believe in home-grown innovation and enabling our Nigerian Digital Economy through Nigerian enterprises. My belief was reaffirmed when I visited Kuje, Abuja, and listened to Dr. Agu Collins Agu, the founder of TD4PAI IoT Hub, and his team present real-time data solutions aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity using IoT sensors and analytical dashboards they have developed.”

The TD4PAI IoT Hub, located in Kuje Area Council of Abuja, is an innovation charity and rural community hub focused on bridging the diversity gap in digital skills, particularly among the most vulnerable with the least access to opportunities.

“We are committed to building capacity and creating opportunities for young people to innovate and solve real-life challenges in Nigeria through technology solutions,” said Founder Dr. Agu Collins Agu.

Agu, who is helping to champion the creed of a community-based enterprise in Abuja, emphasized his commitment to “engineering the lives of young and talented people to find meaning in technology for development and, most importantly, for the eradication of poverty.”

As Nigeria’s first IoT hub to promote upstream ICT, TD4PAI has provided premium digital skills training to many young people at no cost. The training, coupled with industry exposure, is a testament to the charity and passion of Agu and his team, who freely give their time, expertise, and funds to provide young Nigerians with opportunities for a better future.

Egerton-Idehen highlighted, “NIGCOMSAT Limited team got to see other innovations like the Unity Board (AI/IoT STEAM Education Kit) and Udene Board (RFID/IoT DAQaaS Platform), which are versatile IoT devices facilitating solutions across sectors such as agriculture, smart cities, education, industrial automation, and more. Imagine the possibilities when we combine these solutions with the connectivity of NIGCOMSAT Satellite to deliver smart solutions to various sectors, regardless of their location. I am particularly proud to see a revolution in farming practices by leveraging IoT technology for effective soil monitoring starting at home.”

“In alliance with NIGCOMSAT, we aim to drive these technological advancements further and co-create a more prosperous future for Nigeria,” Egerton-Idehen concluded.
