The ACTINSPACE Hackathon grand finale is holding this Friday. Hosted by the Nigeria Communication Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Ltd, the ACTINSPACE Innovation contest draws participation from across the world.  

The ACTINSPACE is an international competition targeted at students of tertiary institutions, IT startups and entrepreneurs to utilise space technologies to create solutions that improve everyday life. The event holds in the form of a hackathon, where successful participants work in teams over a 24-hour period to develop marketable solutions vital to national and global issues through the use of space technologies.

The 2020 edition hosted by NIGCOMSAT, ACTINSPACE is in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, African Aeronautics & Space Organization (AASO), CNES (The National Centre for Space Studies– France), European Space Agency (ESA), Airbus and others.

Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ibrahim Ali Pantami is expected to declare the event open, the chief host is the Managing Director of NIGCOMSAT Ltd, Dr..Abimbola Alale.

The hackathon will provide the finalists with an opportunity to fine-tune their proposed solutions, and create indigenous solutions to global challenges.  Nigeria’s first place winner will represent the country at the global ACTINSPACE event in Paris, France in 2021.

 “We are so pleased with the excellence, commitment and obvious talent of the national participants, and are expecting to see Nigeria win the globalACTINSPACE challenge in 2021,” said Local Organising Committee Chairperson, Alma Okpalefe.
