Nigeria’s communication satellite company, NIGCOMSAT Ltd, has been praised for driving Africa’s agenda for connectivity.
Describing the satellite company as a great asset to the African continent, Liberia’s Assistant Minister of Planning in the Ministry of Education, Mr. Dominic Kwenme thanked NIGCOMSAT for daring to break communication barriers and provide a new growth arena for Africa in space technology.
Kwenme who was speaking recently in Monrovia during the presentation of NIGCOMSAT products and services at the ministry’s headquarters said he “believed that despite many years of independence, Africa has not been able to push through its development stride, but now with the presence of an indigenous satellite, the ball has been set for African countries to take advantage and make the best use of it.
“I am proud to be part of this historic meeting which is meant to drive Africa especially the underserved countries to quickly meet up with the developed world and Nigeria is doing us proud.”
NIGCOMSAT can close education gaps
The Minister of Education, Professor Ansu Sonii had explained to the NIGCOMSAT delegation that the government of George Mennah Weah is pro-poor and President Weah’s focus is on the welfare of the Liberian people. “The president is working hard to ensure that the country gets out of the poverty line and education is enhanced for the people,” said Sonii adding that NIGCOMSAT offers high prospect to close the education gaps.
President Weah while welcoming the delegation on the first day of arrival regretted that though the poverty rate in the country is of great concern to the government, he believes the ministry will not refused to key into a laudable project like this which is meant to improve the lives of the ordinary citizen.
President Weah welcomed the initiative and said the government of Liberia through the various ministries will ensure a smooth collaboration.
Earlier, the head of NIGCOMSAT’s delegation and Executive Director, Marketing and Business Development, Mr. Samson Osagie, had informed President Weah that NIGCOMSA was in Liberia to allow the country leverage on the various services of the communication satellite company.
According to Osagie, the services include e-learning, internet service provision, land administration documentation facility and a host of others. He said NIGCOMSAT plans to work with various ministries and other departments and agencies in the country.
