- Spend less time learning a new programming language, code dapps in a language you already know
- More than 20 million developers can now build dapps in a weekend
- Significant move to democratize web3 development
NEAR Protocol, the high-speed, low-fee, carbon neutral blockchain that is also the most accessible and easy to use, has unveiled its JavaScript Software Development Kit (JS SDK) at ETHToronto, the official hackathon of the Blockchain Futurist Conference, in a significant move to democratize web3 development.
With NEAR’s JS SDK, more than 20 million developers that make JavaScript the world’s most popular coding language will now be able to build fast, scalable, and user-friendly decentralized applications in a weekend.

Commenting on the launch, Illia Polosukhin, Founder of NEAR, said: “Developers can spend less time learning a new language and more time building. Millions of developers already know how to program in JavaScript. Enabling this group to build novel applications on NEAR is a critical step in achieving our vision of a billion users interacting with NEAR.”
NEAR’s JS SDK, which joins NEAR Rust SDK, includes the contract framework itself, JavaScript and TypeScript contract examples and tests. The SDK is implemented in TypeScript, which allows developers to build with the confidence of type definitions and use type-ahead and type-mismatch checking built into their favorite IDE.
Supporting Java also aligns with NEAR’s vision for simplicity and usability. With Java you can build a dApp in under 10 minutes and scale up quickly. It also increases the pool of developer talent.
Most Layer 1 protocols cater for Rust or Solidity developers – which means there’s less than 2.5m developers worldwide that can build applications. In contrast, there are millions of Javascript developers in the world, so this is opening the door to many more people to create our Web3 future and to help pave the way for achieving mass adoption. Supporting Java also aligns with NEAR’s vision for simplicity and usability. With Java you can build a dApp in under 10 minutes and scale up quickly.
Creating the world’s most usable blockchain is an extraordinary achievement and NEAR Protocol is thrilled to be leading the way for this kind of accessibility to Web3.
