This week, Tuesday, January 17, 2017, the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), Plateau State Chapter with the support of the Plateau State Government will be hosting a one day seminar on ‘Developing Mobile Solutions.’ The key speaker is Professor Chris Price, the Director of Learning and Teaching at Aberystwyth University, UK, where he teaches Software Engineering.
The seminar holds inside the Joshua Dariye Hall of Plateau Polytechnic. Among others, the seminar will explore the wide range of applications that are being built for mobile phones; offer insight into the different choices for building applications and provide guidance on how to choose the best way of building mobile applications. Price will lead speakers to examine some of the pitfalls that mobile app developers fall into and how to avoid them.
Professor Price has developed apps that have been downloaded more than 100,000 times. For the past six years, he has run the UK’s largest iPhone development conference (iOSDevUK.com). Along with Edore Akpokodje from FCAHPT, Vom, he is building mobile apps to help farmers improve their crop yields.
“We are glad to have this seminar hold as part of the larger agenda by the NCS, Plateau Chapter, to help boost IT knowledge and build capacity among young people and even startups in this part of the country,” said Mr. Silas Vem, who leads the Plateau Chapter of the NCS. Silas, who is also the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Government of Plateau State, said the support from the state government underscores the commitment of the state led by the Executive Governor, Right Hon. Barrister Simon Lalong to the deepening of new knowledge, particularly IT, among the teeming young population of the state.
The NCS is also pooling together local stakeholders including Nhub, Smartweb, and Qitech Technologies Limited for a successful execution of the one day event. Smartweb is Jos based leading provider of website hosting, VPS hosting and dedicated servers. Nhub is the first and biggest technology center in Northern Nigeria helping in accelerating and nurturing tech startups; and Qitech is a technology marketing company providing strategic partnership and go-to-market support to solution providers including startups. Lagos based Knowhow Media & Marketing Intelligence International (owners of IT Edge News.NG) are providing media support.
