The new tariff plan was initially scheduled for launch on October 27. But the implementation was delayed to allow for further fine-tuning and consumer education.

Simplifying Telecom Offerings

Dr. Maida said the revised tariff structure aims to simplify telecom offerings and address confusion surrounding data and airtime usage.

“The new tariff plan will bring relief to consumers by offering a more straightforward approach to service plans, ensuring better clarity and transparency,” Maida stated.

To streamline options, the NCC has restricted telecom operators to a maximum of seven tariff plans, ensuring users have fewer but clearer choices tailored to their needs.

Addressing Data Depletion Concerns

In response to widespread complaints about rapid data depletion, the NCC clarified that telecom operators are not at fault. Instead, the type of device used plays a significant role in determining data consumption.

The NCC has initiated awareness campaigns to educate consumers on how their devices impact data usage and guide them in selecting devices that align with their data needs.

These measures reflect the NCC’s commitment to creating a consumer-friendly and transparent telecommunications market in Nigeria. By implementing a simplified tariff structure and addressing data-related misconceptions, the commission aims to enhance consumer satisfaction and confidence in the telecom sector.
