The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) have confirmed their participation at the 7th West Africa Convergence Conference (WACC 2015) scheduled to hold in November at the Sheraton Hotel & Towers, Ikeja, Lagos.
Both the NBC and the NITDA are sessional leaders and sponsors of WACC 2015 to underscore the brand value for ideas sharing on convergence and related industry dynamics with which the WACC is associated by regulatory agencies and other stakeholders.
“The West Africa Convergence Conference has become a marketplace for convergence talks, proactive industry and regulatory actions as well as the hub for networking for decision makers on one of the growth areas in the broadcast and ICT sectors,” said chairman of the organizing committee for WACC 2015, Engr. Kayode Gbadamosi, who is also a former zonal director of the Nigeria Television Authority –NTA.
The Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission, Mr. Emeka Mba will be leading the Session on ‘Convergence, Digital Migration and Emerging Trends in the Broadcast Industry’ with a presentation on ‘Digital Migration and Convergence Trends in the Broadcast Industry’ to enrich the discussions and awareness on the NBC’s posture on delivery of broadcast contents and services in the country. The Director General /CEO of the National Information Technology Development Agency, Mr. Peter Jack will lead the Session on ‘Convergence Trends and Local Content’ with a presentation on ‘Regulation, Local Content and Convergence.’
Other confirmed presentations will come from The President of Association of Telecom Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), Engr. Lanre Ajayi and the President of Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA), Mr. Sunday Afolayan. The Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Eugene Juwah, is already confirmed to lead the discussions on ‘Regulation, Broadband and Convergence.’
WACC 2015 is designed to highlight the opportunities and challenges of convergence despite the county’s infrastructural deficits. WACC 2015 theme is: ‘Addressing Infrastructural Challenges in a Converged Market.’
The Four Broad Sessions at the 7th Convergence Forum are: Convergence and Broadband Infrastructures; Convergence, Digital Migration and Emerging Trends in the Broadcast Industry; Convergence Trends and Local Content; Convergence and BPO/Outsourcing – Opportunities and Challenges in Nigeria. The terminal session is the Testimonial/Case Study Session on Convergence Testimonials in Nigeria’s marketplace. A key area at WACC 2015 is the ‘Regulatory Focus on Addressing Local Content Needs as Convergence takes foothold.’
