Mr. Halilu made this announcement on Thursday in Abuja during the House Committee’s oversight visit to NASENI’s Headquarters to inspect its products and projects. The visit aimed to enhance research in technological advancement across sectors such as defense, agriculture, and infrastructure.
Among the newly unveiled NASENI products are the NASENI Laptop, Android Smartphone, Lithium Battery, LED Solar Street Light, Solar Irrigation System, Electric Bicycle, and Electric Keke (both passenger and cargo types). Halilu also showcased two newly branded NASENI electric vehicles (EVs) to the lawmakers.
“NASENI has been at the forefront of driving Nigeria’s technological advancement and industrialization,” Halilu stated. “Over the past few months, we have implemented several key initiatives to transform our operations from primarily research-based activities to the commercialization of our products and services.”
He emphasized the importance of this transformation for contributing effectively to the national economy and achieving sustainable development goals. Halilu noted that 85% of NASENI’s projects are funded through counterpart funding, emphasizing collaboration, creation, and commercialization to engage the private sector and fulfill the agency’s mandate.
Halilu proudly declared that about 35 NASENI products are now market-ready. “We are prepared for the Nigerian market, and we want the honorable members to be our first ambassadors through patronage and support. We are also establishing showrooms in all 36 states to market our products. Every activity we undertake has a commercial plan. We aim for our products to reach end users, not just sit on shelves,” he explained.
Highlighting NASENI’s achievements, Halilu listed innovation and research development, product commercialization, renewable energy projects, and capacity building. He called on the lawmakers to continue supporting NASENI in delivering both capital and consumer goods to the nation and creating jobs for Nigerian youths.
Chairman of the House Committee on NASENI, Hon. Otunba Abimbola Ajilesoro, stated that the oversight visit was an opportunity to interact with NASENI and enhance research in technological advancement across various sectors. He emphasized that such advancements would save and generate much-needed foreign exchange, positively impacting the economy.
“We have been following NASENI’s activities and deemed it necessary to see for ourselves the NASENI-branded products, including laptops, smartphones, and lithium batteries, that will enhance Nigeria’s economy,” Ajilesoro remarked.
Ajilesoro assured NASENI of the Committee’s readiness to support it through appropriation and legislative frameworks to strengthen its establishment act, enabling the agency to deliver effectively. “While the committee will continually offer necessary support, it will also demand accountability and value for money in implementing its programs. This approach will help expand, deepen, and create a sustainable path for technological advancement, positioning Nigeria as an industrial hub among nations,” he concluded.
