In alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has successfully concluded a five-day training program for 100 youths in Ebonyi State. The initiative aims to create wealth and employment opportunities for young Nigerians by equipping them with skills in modern electrical installation and maintenance.

The program, held from November 26–29, 2024, at Remeritona Hotel and Suites, Abakaliki, focused on advanced skills such as electrical wiring installation, appliance repair, solar power installation, electrical panel maintenance, safety inspections, and system upgrades.

Building Capacity for Economic Growth

Speaking at the closing ceremony, NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman/CEO, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, emphasized the agency’s commitment to job creation, skill acquisition, and poverty alleviation. Represented by Mr. Ibrahim Baba Dauda, Coordinating Director of Finance and Accounts, Halilu said:

“Statistics show a growing demand for quality electrical maintenance professionals due to increasing building construction activities. This training aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, which prioritizes economic growth, job creation, and skill development.”

Halilu noted that the Ebonyi program is the third in the South-East, following similar initiatives in Anambra and Imo States focused on solar installation and maintenance.

Empowering Youth for Economic Transformation

Highlighting the program’s impact, Halilu stressed its role in fostering employability, meeting industry demands, ensuring energy efficiency, and providing global opportunities.

“The 100 Ebonyi youths trained here today are now equipped to embark on transformative careers. They will contribute to the socio-economic development of Nigeria, particularly in Ebonyi State,” he added.

Participants received comprehensive startup kits containing modern electrical tools, including face shields, hard hats, cordless drills, wire strippers, safety goggles, and other essential equipment. Halilu urged beneficiaries to use these tools to build careers and train others, cautioning them against selling the kits.

Government and Community Support

The Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, represented by Commissioner for Skill Development and Job Creation, Hon. Elijah Okwu Oko Udu, praised the collaboration with NASENI as a testament to the state’s vision for youth empowerment.

Renewed Hope Agenda in Action

The program reflects NASENI’s broader strategy to address Nigeria’s youth unemployment and skills gap, ensuring alignment with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda. By empowering youth with modern technical skills, the initiative aims to enhance job creation, improve energy efficiency, and drive economic development across the country.

This training marks another milestone in NASENI’s mission to develop skilled professionals capable of meeting Nigeria’s growing demand for a technically proficient workforce, paving the way for sustainable growth and a brighter future.
